Song choice

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S85q2xSpwUI

This is our song choice, we chose this because we both like this song and the lyircs are really good to listen to and we think the lyrics will suit our style of video we want to do

Target audience

Our target audience would be more of the younger generation, rather than adults. Teenagers would prefer to listen to this kind of music and appriciate the video more than adults. Seveys on facebook and twitter show that teenagers between the age of 15 and 19 would prefer to listen to this genre of music and have a fun upbeat video to watch, rather than a slow balled

Digipack plans

The plan for our front cover of the digipack will be to have a large group photo across the front, with our logo, song title and artist of the song.

The photo on the front will be of all the people featured in the video, in the style of MTV's hit shows Geordie Shore and The Valleys:

We chose to style our front cover like this because reality shows like this are popular with the younger generation who listen to our genre of music and typically watch music channels like MTV, Box and 4music which is where music videos are mostly found, other than online sources.

Designing logos

This is the draft of my media groups logo. Once the final logo for the group has been decided it will be drawn up on a computer with colour and better writing to attract out audience

Possible Locations

For our media production we need to shoot in many different and distinctive locations. With the song leaving us a very blank canvas with ideas we can do go where ever we want and do whatever we want. We would like to shoot in many different locations and show modes of transport to show the audience how busy are lives are. Travelling around wouldn't be an issue as public transport such as buses and trains are available. I also drive so short journeys are not an issue for us either. Filming in our local area of Peterborough can be done but we would like to stretch our imaginations and think of better places to film for such a unique song that would suit any location.

Possible locations:

  • Peterborough
  • Hunstanton
  • Skeggness
  • London
  • Cambridge
  • Newcastle
  • Tenerife?

Things that will be included in our video from the origonal

Drumsound and Bassline Smith

Similarities with other videos

Our music video will be much like the Rihanna - We Found Love music video. In the Rihanna video there is a lot going out with fast editing and crazy antics with an on screen boyfriend which match the pace of the song and its lyrics. Our video will be similar, with fast editing and flashing lights and wild things being done on screen while the fast beat is playing, but then slowed down calm things happening during the beginning vocals of the song.

Similar content in the We Found Love video is what will be included in ours are:

Drugs will be being in use during our production. We chose to show ourselves drinking, and occasionally smoking during our video to show what teenagers are like. We class ourselves as 'the norm' and through our video me and Gina would like to get a true reflection of not only ourselves, but stereotypical teenagers.

Typical teenage things like a messy bedroom or flat will be featured in our production for similar reasons to above. We want to grasp the stereotypical teenage look, which in this video wont necessarily be positive.

Antics like this will be shown in our video because we want to show we like to have fun and have a good time during the climax of the song.

Drumsound and Bassline Smith - Through The Night

Initial ideas for our production

Our idea for our media production is Drumsound and Bassline Smith - Through the night. This song is a commercial drumnbass and the original video has the story line of a love relationship with a couple, getting drunk and doing crazy things. Our media production will be a different video to this as we don't want our video to be based around a relationship. The story line through our production will be a group of friends travelling around drinking and doing drugs. The group will be partying in different destinations around the UK. The video will show the bond between the close group of friends and how they will always be together, even through the bad times. The 5 people in the video will be, Gina Fort, Bradley Roche, James Hefferon, Poppie Smith and myself. Me and the 4 other people are real life friends, some of whom are students and some full time workers, we are all 17 years old and share the same interests. Being friends in real life will help us to show our friendship bonds through the video because not much acting is needed.

Star image in music videos

Star image in music videos are one of the most important things for an artist or record label to consider. Many stars like Rihanna, Jessie J and others are seen as little girls role models, so what they wear, how they act and what they do are important as others will follow.

Style is not just orientated around women in music videos, males want to look the best all the time to make themselves seem attractive to viewers, fans, and other stars.

Style and star image is even more important these days as many stars are in competition with each other. Even though celebrities are friends the competition is always fierce at award shows like the VMA's and EMA's where stars win awards for their videos.

Music lables and branding

A record label is a brand and a trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. Most commonly, a record label is the company that manages such brands and trademarks, coordinates the production, manufacture, distribution, marketing and promotion, and enforcement of copyright protection of sound recordings and music videos; conducts talent scouting and development of new artists and maintains contracts with recording artists and their managers. The term "record label" derives from the circular label in the center of a vinyl record which prominently displays the manufacturer's name, along with other information.

The two most common record labels with currect artists are Roc Nation, owned by Jay-Z, which has signed Rihanna and Rita Ora. The other label is YMCMB which includes all the US rappers such as Lil' Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj

A History of music videos

Music videos are often called promotional videos, or just simply, promos, due to the fact that they are usually promotional platforms for artists.

In 1981 MTV was launched. In the mind 1980's artists started to use more sophisticated effects in their videos and added a storyline or plot. Michael Jackson was the first artist to create the concept of having a short film. His music video for Billie Jean had a beginning, middle and end of the music video.

Modern day technology has made music videos more popular with fans of artists or just general people. Most people look forward to their favourite artist releasing their latest video to their new single. Now a days most videos are watched for the visual effect rather than watching for the music (which is what the artists used to intend on doing).

Current female stars such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj use seductive techniques to attract more video views, which appears to work. The stars have many videos for most of their singles, some of the videos not even remotely related to the lyrics in the song. Which just proves people just watch the videos for the aesthetic side of it, and artists are starting to realise that.
